We believe arts education to be an integral part of primary education. It helps to promote a child’s thinking, imagination and self-esteem. It allows children to explore alternative ways of communicating.
We have an annual art exhibition to celebrate the children’s artistic creations. Parents are invited to come into the school to appreciate the brilliance of our budding artists! Both teachers and visitors were extremely impressed with our 2D and 3D creations last year. We also take part in numerous art competitions in our school, with students reaching final stages in Community Games and Sight Savers competitions.
Music and Drama play a huge part in our lives in Roxboro N.S. With several talented teachers, the pupils are not short of guidance and opportunities to take part in performances. Our wonderful school choir provide music for school mass, Confirmation and Communion.
We are very excited about junior classes performing Christmas concerts and senior classes participating in our annual Carol Service this year. Third and fourth classes also perform in our end of year Talent Show, showcasing dancing, singing, short sketches, magic shows, football skills to mention but a few.
We love to give the children the opportunity to develop and display their talents. Each year we have great interest and involvement in Scór na bPáistí and the children participate in dancing, solo singing, ballad groups, drama and quiz.
Every two years the children of 5th and 6th class take part in what is the biggest cross border choral event in Ireland – The Peace Proms. Since its inception, the Peace Proms have worked towards uniting choirs and orchestras on both sides of the border in an event held annually in the RDS, Dublin.
Rehearsals begin in November, when the children in our school choir begin to learn the songs and dance moves needed for the performance. These include medleys of modern pop songs as well as golden oldies which their parents would be able to sing along with.
The choir practise once in Dublin and also put on a school performance before taking to the stage along with hundreds of other children on stage in front of their parents in the RDS. The memories of the sound produced by so many voices singing in harmony with a world class orchestra will stay with them forever more.
We can’t wait to be a part of it again!
